Name - Dragon Lair (Part 1) The Castle
Author - DRLONG
First Impressions
The Badge is decorated to have a dragon breathing fire on the front, making the level seem action-packed!
After the ''Up in your face'' Introduction (where the intro takes up the whole screen and forces you to look) where DRLONG announces his level, you fall into a little village only to find that the whole village want you dead!
You then wake up in a dank musty cell and your journey begins...
First Impression - 8/10 - Promising Start
Length
This level took me about 13mins to finish on my first go.
Length - 10/10 - Can't fault it. Appropriate Length.
Presentation / Attention to Detail and Sound
I often find that describing this section is the hardest. Im probably over critical in my approach to presentation, but I don't care.
Im gona try something diffrent this time and score out of 10 each Section of the level for its overall presentation. Taking into account, lighting, sound, detail and space.
Hopefully this will make it easier to read. Please comment if you prefer this or my other way of doing things.
- Intro - Brilliant intro, Puts his name right up there very clear, and the words Dragon Lair are on fire. Then you are met by the scary dragon face before you fall down to the village.
- Village - Great character detail, building detail and time to appreciate everthing before you are forced to leave.
- Cell - The cell didnt have much detail, pruposly I think. The Sleeping guard snoring outside the cell was good for lightening up the mood.
- Torture Chamber - Hanging cells, with prisoners, skeletons, blood, what more could you ask for in a Torture chamber, good candle lighting.
- Sewer - Not the best to be honest. Very square, messy stickers for bricks, awkward layout and simplistic exit. It mabye should have gotten darker in the sewer to change the feeling of the area. And again, I'm just not a fan of mini checkpoints.
- Upstairs Sewer - Horrible toilet, looked incredibly out of place, the rest of the room was richly detailed, with great use of the doors.
- Book Room - It was a bit too colourful for a castle, and so it clashed... Great bookcase movement and good use of layers.
- The Knights looked brilliant and had a great movement of there swords, The characters overall were excellent.
- Dining Room - This was probably the best part, Roast pigs, Chandelirs, food and a long table, with the King at the end.
- Cannon Knight bad camera angle, switches above are visible...
- Finish - Good finish and unsuspected drop, great detail down below.

Overall the level is nicely detailed, but could use a little more work in some areas. good lighting, but not much noises.
Story
Villagers see you fall from the sky, thinking your a witch they capture you and put you in a cell...
A floating light appears to you and tells you its from another world sent to help you.
There are many comical moments, such as the man with the shovel, and the guard who ate a bit too much pork.
The main plot of the story is simple, : escape the castle... This is Part 1 of 3, so i expect the story gathers more momentum later on, but it does the level justice.
Story - 7/10
Humor
I don't want to ruin the jokes, as it will take away from the experience, but DRLONG seems to get it right and get a giggle and a chuckle out of the player... This guy had too much chicken..
Playability
I'd say you may play this level twice or 3 times at the max if you really like it... Or if your going for the high score there are plenty of combos you can try and get.
Platforming
There are many things to do in this level. Dodge poo, kill knights, solve puzzles with jetpacks and fight a boss at the end, it keeps you on the edge.
Platforming 8/10
Overall Design
The overall Design and layout is pretty good, the diffrent rooms work together well and the switches are clever enough with no problems to report, There was nothing that had me thinking ''How the hell?'' either.
One part I found a bit tedious was solving the book puzzel, its easy to do, just a little annoying moving books into tiny holes 7 times..
Layout - 8/10
Switches - 7/10 (nothing goes wrong, everything works well, good drawbridge)
Known Glitches : Faults
No glitches, but on 2 occasions you can see switches and see outside the level when you aren't supposed to.
Negative scores
-2/10
Lasting Appeal
Enjoyed this level alot and will be playing the other 2,
But one thing that left me a bit dissatisfied was that there is no dragon in this level...... as for the other 2 levels I won't review them as I only do series reviews if I give 5stars to the level.
7/10 - Happy
