  1. blackbird

i know, i know. very old school, but to me it never gets old.

i love this song for its haunting melody and seeming simplicity. it's like a delicate balance of a longing sort of hope with a hint of melancholy.

there's been different reports on what the song means. but to me, songs always have a way of remaining long after the last note is played, when the lyrics can be whatever the listener imagines them to be.

    'Cause I'm feelin'
    Like a criminal ...

I watched a change in you
It's like you never had wings
    And you feel so alive
    I've watched you change

    I took you home
    Set you on the glass
    I pulled off your wings
    Then I laughed
    I watched a ...

  5. where did you sleep last night?

leadbelly has often been given credit as having written this song, which was made famous here by nirvana in their mtv unplugged performance.

many believe though that the folk song originated during the civil war and had been passed down from generation to generation.

as with everything word of mouth, the song has often changed in characters, settings and circumstance but it has also been noted that despite the different versions of this song one thing does not change--that ...
