A LittleBig hello to all you little sack people who have been jumping around your pods in anticipation at getting started on your levels.Well the wait is now officially over,the contest theme is LOVE!

The level is to be published on Febuary 14th (that's Saint Valentine's Day for all you little sack folk who spend too much time on your Ps3 or Pc).
It is entirely up to you how you interpret the theme,be as creative and diverse as you want. IT could be love for a person, a hobby, a videogame, a song, a movie, a poem, a work of art, anything you love or love doing. If you love frightening,entertaining, fooling or make little sack people laugh or cry or go OMG! in awe it's up to you. It can be as long or short, as simple or complicated as you want it be. It can be happy or sad, tragic or funny, a classic tale of love lost or a contempary tale of love for LBP itself. If you love war or blowing things up lets have the most explosive war level ever or if you love jumping, swinging, racing lets have the jumpiest most swinging racing level yet. If you love tanks or vehicles get your tools out and let's see your love machine.
We do ask that you promote the forum by clearly labeling it http://www.lbpforum.net competition entry clearly in the title along with your creation name and http://www.lbpforum.net somewhere in your level. After judging is finished you can change the title to whatever you want and do anything you like with your level. I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun creating and playing together.
You still have plenty of time to make the required number of posts to enter, now get busy little sackpeople creating,posting etc Get out there and spread the LBPF LOVE!

You can apply for the competition in this thread. Then i will add you to the list of who's in the competition. Remember your level will only be judged if you have 2 stars(= 75 posts). So that doesn't mean that you can't start making your level now even of you don't have the required amount of posts. :)

The judges at the moment are me and Enochroot, we are looking for 1 more judge. Off course you can't be judge and be in the competition. :)

The winner will be rewarded with a PS3 game of your choice!

I think people who want to enter should be grand-fathered in; starting with me :D . I tell ya what i'll do. To show my dedication to this forum (which by the way is the best one I found dedicated to my favorite game ever),but to show my dedication, when I get home (i'm at work :cry: ) i'm going to take a level of mine that has already been published. It's been up for 4 days now and has over 220 plays and a solid four stars. I will create a bilboard with LBPFORUM.net in bright letters and place it at the begining of the level. The level is called Horse Race, give it a looksy tomorrow to confirm my dedication (although the big MM may slap my hand for advertising a third party) maybe not, is this site an "offical licensed" site of LBP?

about the other stuff, plz read the post, we aint promoting spam, solely giving your opinions about the lbpforum.net lvls in the creativity planet, can give you a lot of post, also woth your introduction and chatting with some of us can easily give you 75 post, yeah we want to promote the forum, but the 75post requirement assures that REAL members, i mean ppl that have spended to put it like that a minimun of time in the forum, if it wasnt like that, anyone could participate, a person that just found the forum, have 1 post(post saying that its in the contest), puff that person wins the prize and then, forget about the forum, personally, i think the post req should be more, as 75 post can be easily be done.

if i remember well, admin(RK) isnt going to participate since he will be one of the two judges.
what we want here mate is focus on the quality of the participants, yeah it would be good if there was like 20 ppl in the contest, but let me ask you something, in one side you have 20-30 ppl in the contest but most of them to not say all, you dont know them, only one post and puff, mr x win the contest and puff mr x is never seen again, this can happen contest after contest, option two, you have 6 ppl in the contest, well lets say 10 with other users pots count growing, but you know them well, are friendly faces and you have chatted and played some of their lvls, puff one of them won the prize, you congratulate him and also give you the confidence that you were inside that group and the prize will be inside that group of ppl, that means you could be the winner.
its a little fee we are asking for, like $10 for buying a lotto or something, so you can have a chance to win the prize, 75 post means that the ppl that want to be in the contest demostrate a little bit of interest in the forum.

The 75 post requirement is a non negotiable and is there for the very good reasons WD89 has explained.There has been no outright spamming (although Surf seems to be only interested in one topic,namely his own level).It's worth posting up just to receive the benefits of technical,advice,gameplay feedback;and you can become good friends with some creative and dedicated LPB sackaholics.With the number of sections and threads running 75 posts is an easy and enjoyable target.If you feel you are a good creator you should challenge yourself to make the posts,you wont regret it,because I have a few surprises coming up over the next couple of weeks.Keep your eyes open for clues...

currently 8 people have over 75 posts, and a further 10 have 20 or more

with 31 days untill the comp those people have to post just under twice a day to enter, im sure 2 posts a day isn't hard - heck I'm at something like 12.36 per day

man just played all of your lvls a DAAAAAAAAAAAMFKKKKKOMFKGJESUS they are so good, innovative, the paint rifle and the other one, so cool, lost idol series, amazing narration. CONGRATULATIONS what a nice crative mind. also, i would like to hear some advises because sometimes i see huge backgrounds and complex platforms like all was a unique object, and creating my lvl, i made something like that, but to the point that the "this object is too complicated" message.
any advises to avoid it?

Build areas in seperate sections... if you're cutting into a single block it will eventually reach maximum vertices and detail limit. If you have 4 boxes glued to each other, in perfect symmetry, you can cut 4 times as much detail into what appears to be a single block.

Hope that helps a little... there's alot of tricks, but it just comes with practice. My first few levels weren't all that great either, and each one gets better IMO, as I learn more and can plan better. Planning is definitely key. Know where your end is, and where you start is. Don't deviate, and keep in mind everything that you're going to put in the level and how much thermometer it will take. Your best bet is to build the entire level out without any real details and art put in, just platforms and squares... and then kind of fill in the details as the thermometer allows and work room by room til you're satisfied with each one.

You don't want to end up with a maxed thermometer and come up with a great idea that you can't use because you didn't plan ahead - believe me, I've done that almost everytime and have regretted not planning ahead or taking my time.

The secret to my levels is editing... hundreds of edits after playtesting over and over and over. What you see now is probably much better than what was first published around launch.

I'd like to add that limiting your palette also helps, each material type has an impact on the space gauge as does item stamping the first item e.g a tank you place takes a certain amount of space up, but you can add so many more before it rises again, but when it does... Damn it rises a load for each one after that. And that varies for each item in question. Stickers and the like seem to take hardly any space up but you can only attach so many to any-given item. Some people seem to think the complexity of a material piece adds to the gauge, this isn't the case you can have one piece that fills the entire space and the gauge wouldn't rise any more as a result of that. It's how many pieces you have that does it. After I have an idea I build it, test it then optimize it. The mark 3 Rex of mine used to take about 3 notches on the gauge up, now its just under one.

Example I took the bubble crate from the MGs DLC used my cookie cutter copy to make a full not hollow box and made 4 different version of it, so thats 4 boxes custom made, u know how many I had before it started adding any more space 128, thats 32 of each box type. Im prepping a youtube Vid to show exactly how many boxes, sound boring wait until the video is uploaded.

I know what you mean WhiteDeath... im halfway thrue mine, but i cant seem to look at it and be satisfied... :/ im making the basics and then add the detail later, i have the story (but not the ''lines'', yet)... And probably i will change alot untill the final day, i seem to get stuck on ideas sometimes and im not all that good with gadgets and stuff...But im aiming for the best i can to give some competition to you guys... Yeah normaly im also like that, i always like to finish one segment before heading to the next, but i have so many ideas that i just have to make a simple design to star and finnish it later... And im busy with a form of dialogue so dant it doesnt repeat itself, seeing that in this level you have to go from point A to B and return to A but all with different dialogues... :)

My story is also simple, and every day i have something new to add... lool hope it wont get to complex... :P

i saw that on a community lvl, i think is grampa's ibs, try it, but i think he made agan the first part of the lvl to do that. another thing that i dont know if works, maeybe making where you glue the magic mouth, disolve material and then an emitter with the new dialogue

Yes, its quiet dificult to make something perfect... i just make them acceptable and so that they work... And i just hate those glitches that everything falls apart when i add a little of material to somewhere... My thermo is already hitting the top and still somethings to do, mainly dialogue... (sad) i hope i have enough space for it... :/

My lvl is so sucky that i dont even think you guys should see it... It really sucks now when im bored of making levels :S it does a huge diffrent if you like to make levels than if you hate it .. :/

Well good luck, I was thinking the same thing about my original plan and thats why I went with some thing different. I also just got bored of working on the other level. I figured the idea was to have fun so I might as well make something I have fun making. I find I always screw some thing up when I am not enjoying it anyway. I have a few questions about the contest...
1. What should I name my level, can it be LBPForum.net - "Level Name" or something along those lines?
2. Does the level have to be working 4 all 4 players, sometimes i can't get switches to work correctly if there are 4 sack boys running about.
3. On the first post theres a list of competitors, im not on it do I have to be on it to be in the contest? (This ones a biggy, I ve been working on a level 4 like 7 day now 4 the contest I dont want it all to be wasted time)

I've been getting PMs from people concerned about when to publish the level.The initial competition post tells you to post it on Feb 14th so when the clock clicks over to 00:01 where ever you are in the world you can publish.There will be no advantage for people who live in an earlier timezone as the judging is going to be long and rigorous (I will probably wear my fingers out and lose my final connection with the real world as I immerse myself in an orgy of littlebigplaneteering!) Some people have expressed concern about Hardrive space and level saving issues,if you want to publish a securely locked unamed level like NinjaMicWZ does you can but be careful so you don't release it's title or unlock it before 14/02/2009.I would encourage people to read the very first post on page one of this thread to remind themselves of the contest specs.The organisers and judges are going to be putting a lot of work in over the next week as you deserve it for all your efforts.

It was just a few of my many failed to load levels which we accessed through my private create moon.The pyrotechnia level is published online @ EnochRoot and you may be able to access it now you have some of the data transferred to your system.The one with the pictures of members was my www.lbpforum (http://www.lbpforum) showcase level featuring forum members,it was up and running for a while and DC seemed to like all the naked ladies but then it turned into a failed to load as well,I was thinking of trying this one again and adding all the new members.

Yeah but i really dont like the level that i have made for the comp. (the first one), :(, i just think that it doesnt have nothing special that makes anyone go... WOW.... :( Oh well, at least i will be running for the the '' Most Dull Lvl'' prize... :)

Relax foxeye,many a time I've played levels with big set pieces,and some wow moments.But usually they lack a certain charm and I seldom replay them.

i got such a clear image (more off a bad quality YouTube movie on 20 seconds) of a guy fighting over a bottle with a angry sackboy that can talk but only he can hear, destroying everything around them

Weelll!!! Today.. I like didnt make anything LOL! SO BORING OMG HELP ME!! YARGH!! But.. Ill make it tomorrow. Im not giving up babys! My level is still gonna be nice.. Its nothing thats gonna make my level worse that I havent made so much of it yet:) Ive made the hardest part.. I just have to put some notes over and over again on a big line.. (youll understand when you have seen it) .. Soooo :D

DanishCrown, why not make a parkour level? You love that :) you could make everything white except the things you interact with. You can make those red.... Oh wait. Guess that's been done by EA. ;)
